2010 Press Releases
Top Athletes and Future Champions to Compete in Morton Plant Mease Triathlon

CLEARWATER, Fla. (June 17, 2010) – This year’s Morton Plant Mease Triathlon on June 27 will feature elite junior triathletes competing with some of the world’s top triathletes. The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon has been chosen as the 2010 USAT Florida Region Junior Championship. The race will give elite junior triathletes, ages 15 to 19, a rare opportunity to compete alongside champions. This gives the USA Triathlon organization a chance to identify potential future Olympians. The race will also be used as a junior qualifier for the 2010 International Triathlon Union Sprint Distance World Championship. Approximately 50 junior elite triathletes are expected to participate. Top competitors registered for this year’s triathlon include Nina Kraft, who won last year’s 2009 Morton Plant Mease Triathlon. Kraft is also the 2009 Gasparilla Marathon female winner. She holds the 2007 Florida Ironman title, breaking the record course by 20 minutes. Kraft, originally from Germany, now lives and trains in Clermont, Fla. The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon presented by the Skip Cline Leadership Society kicks off at 6:50 a.m. with a 1/3-mile open water swim at Sand Key Park. From there, participants will bike 13 miles through Clearwater Beach, over the Memorial Causeway and through Clearwater. The final leg consists of a 3.1 mile run in Sand Key Park. The registration fee is $75 per individual and $95 per relay team. Entry fees are non-refundable. Online registration closes on June 22 and no registration will be offered on day of race. Registration capacity is limited to 1000 entries. A $4,000 purse will be distributed to the top five Elite/Open Division male and female finishers. Custom plaques will be awarded to the top five male and female in each division and top three teams in each relay division. All race finishers will receive a custom medal.
