Morton Plant Hospital's Comprehensive Breast Program Receives Top Recognition
CLEARWATER, Fla., (October 27, 2010) –The Comprehensive Breast Program at Morton Plant Hospital has been honored with accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
“Morton Plant is proud to be the first hospital in the Tampa Bay area to receive this accreditation and one of only four facilities in Florida to receive this recognition,” said Matt Novak, director of operations for Morton Plant Hospital. “This highly regarded national accreditation confirms our commitment to providing women with the most currently available forms of evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care that strive to meet their medical, physical and emotional needs.”
Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:
• Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
• A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
• Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
• Quality breast care close to home.
“The Comprehensive Breast Health Program provides evaluation, diagnosis and treatment including the most advanced diagnostic imaging, surgical techniques and support services for cancer patients and their families” said Peter Blumencranz, MD, medical director of the Morton Plant Mease Comprehensive Breast Program. “Our goal is to offer advanced treatment protocols along with compassionate, family-centered care for a complete approach to cancer care.”
The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education. Its board membership includes professionals from 15 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of breast care.
