Morton Plant Mease Nurses Walk In Honor of Florence Nightingale and Fellow Nurses|
CLEARWATER, Fla., (March 16, 2011) - Nurses of Morton Plant Mease will be walking in honor of Florence Nightingale and all nurses during the Nightingale Walk 2011. This year's Nightingale Walk encourages nurses to walk at least 55 miles starting March 17, 2011 through May 12, 2011 which is Florence Nightingale's birthday. Nightingale is considered the mother of modern nursing because she spent her life helping others and working to improve health care conditions.
Family members of nurses and other Morton Plant Mease team members who want to honor nurses and their dedication to patients and the community can also participate. This year, participants will walk at their own pace, on their own routes and then track their miles. Last year, the Nightingale Walk occurred on one day when nurses walked the distances between Morton Plant, Mease Dunedin, Mease Countryside and Morton Plant North Bay.
"This year we have extended the walk from one day to a period of several weeks, hoping to have more nurses, team members and their families participate," said Lisa Johnson, vice president of patient care services. "It can be a great reason for a family or a hospital department to come together and honor the hard work and compassion of our nurses."
Group walks are encouraged and will be held on Saturdays starting at 8:30 a.m. and will be led by an exercise trainer for two to three mile morning walks. Group walks will start at the Cheek-Powell Wellness Center at 455 Pinellas St., Clearwater, FL and at the Palm Harbor Wellness Center at 32672 US Hwy 19 N., Palm Harbor, FL on Saturday, March 19, 2011 and ends on Saturday, May 7, 2011.
Registration starts March 1, 2011. Participants receive a colorful visor, a tracking sheet and are eligible for a grand prize if they complete 55 miles. 55 miles is the total distance of the loop around all the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease. The Professional Practice Council and Patient Care Services sponsors the Nightingale Walk. For more information on the Nightingale Walk, call (727) 953-6877.
Morton Plant, Morton Plant North Bay, Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin hospitals are recognized with Magnet Designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the most prestigious national recognition of excellence in nursing care.
