Sean Jefferson and Nina Kraft are the Male and Female Winners of the Sixth Annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon

Junior Athletes Shane Deeley and Caroline Condon Earn USA Triathlon's  Florida Region Junior Championship Title

CLEARWATER, Fla. (June 26, 2011) - Sean Jefferson and Nina Kraft crossed the finish line first to take the top male and female winner spots at the sixth annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon.  Approximately 1,000 competitors took part in the race held Sunday, June 26, 2011 that included a 1/3-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico starting at Sand Key Park and ended with a 3.1-mile run through Sand Key Park. The start of the race was delayed about an hour and the 13-mile bike portion was cancelled due to inclement weather.    

The results for the top three elite winners are:

USA Triathlon elite junior athletes, ages 15 to 19, were also given the opportunity to compete in the first wave with top elite athletes and for the 2011 USAT Florida Region Junior Championship title. The junior male title holder is Shane Deeley, 18, of Clearwater with a time of 26:21. The title holder for the junior female goes to Caroline Condon, 15, of St. Petersburg with a race time of 33:18.

The top five Elite/Open Division male and female finishers share a $4,000 prize purse and custom plaques were awarded to the top five male and female finishers in each division and top three relay teams. In addition to the elites and juniors, the following divisions were represented:

Age Group (14 and under, then in five year increments to 85+)

Clydesdale: 39 and under/40 & over

Athena 39: and under/40 & over

The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon is organized and presented by the Skip Cline Society of the Morton Plant Mease Foundation to benefit the pediatric services at the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease, This year's efforts will help purchase a NICU baby simulator for the nurses and physicians at Mease Countryside Hospital and to support the education services and community health events at the new St. Joseph's Children's Specialty Center at Mease Countryside.
