Morton Plant Hospital Auxiliary Changes Name to Morton Plant Caring Partners

CLEARWATER, Fla., (March 21, 2003) - The Board of Directors of the non-profit Morton Plant Hospital Auxiliary recently changed its name to Morton Plant Caring Partners.
"The decision to change the name was based upon a comprehensive review of volunteer recruitment and retention policies," said William Clarke, president of Morton Plant Caring Partners. "The objective is to increase the number of Morton Plant Hospital's volunteers and raise the level of excellence."
In addition to their work within the hospital, Morton Plant Caring Partners is dedicated to promoting the health care of the community through programs such as CareVan, a free van service; Friend to Friend, a grocery and pharmacy pick-up service; Camp Living Springs, a three-day retreat for adult cancer survivors; Holiday Lights, annual celebration to honor or remember a loved one; Phone Care, a reassurance program for those individuals who live alone; and free Medicare counseling.
On November 9, 2001, Morton Plant Caring Partners received the Daily Points of Light award for its Camp Living Springs program. Sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation, the Corporation for National Service and the Knights of Columbus, this award honors organizations demonstrating an innovative approach to volunteer services.
Established in 1916, Morton Plant Hospital is a 687-bed facility dedicated to improving the health of all it serves through community-owned health services that set the standard for high quality, compassionate care.
In 2002, Morton Plant was named one of America's Top 50 Hospitals, according to AARP Modern Maturity magazine and a 100 Top Hospital in the "Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success" study for the fourth consecutive year. Morton Plant was also named to the 100 Top Hospital Overall list in 2002. In 2000, HCIA-Sachs (now Solucient) named Morton Plant as the only hospital in the country to achieve 100 Top Hospital status in four categories - cardiovascular, stroke, orthopaedic and overall.
In 2001, Morton Plant Hospital joined forces with H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida, Tampa to provide research and services for cancer patients. Morton Plant also offers a family practice residency program in conjunction with the University of South Florida.
