Morton Plant Mease Memory Improvement Course Offers Interactive Techniques to Train the Brain Five-Week Program Addresses Age-Related Memory Concerns
CLEARWATER, Fla., (May 15, 2012) – A five-week course designed to help people improve or maintain their memories wil be held Fridays throughout June at the Ptak Orthopaedic and Neuroscience Pavilion at Morton Plant Hospital.
The memory training sessions are taken as a five-week series beginning Friday, June 1, 10 a.m. – noon. Cost is $50. The Ptak Pavilion is located at 430 Morton Plant St. in Clearwater. To register, call 727-953-6877, or go to www.mpmhealth.com.
Research indicates that people suffering from memory loss or lapses can benefit from training techniques designed to help them maintain memory and improve mental skills. Benefits of taking proactive steps to train the brain with techniques designed to keep memories and mental skills sharp include optimizing an individual’s independence, improving overall health and maintaining a regular routine of daily activities, according to findings by the Mayo Clinic.
The month-long memory training course offered by Morton Plant Mease’s Memory Disorders Clinic is specifically designed for people with age-related memory concerns. The program teaches practical techniques using group discussions, memory checks and skill-building exercises that were developed based on research conducted the UCLA Center on Aging.
The course is designed to help participants achieve the following:
Acquire general strategies to improve memory
Remember names and faces
Develop techniques to recall numbers
Learn about factors affecting memory
Instructors include Morton Plant staff members and volunteers who have undergone training by the UCLA Center on Aging. This training is not intended for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
