2013 Press Releases
Morton Plant Mease, Clearwater Threshers Unite Against Breast Cancer
06/21/2013
CLEARWATER, Fla., (June 20, 2013) – The Clearwater Threshers’ baseball diamond soon will be a girl’s best friend when the team joins forces with Morton Plant Mease for the eighth annual Pitch for Pink event to strike out breast cancer. The event is scheduled for Friday July 12, 2013, at Bright House Field, 601 N Old Coachman Road, Clearwater.
Activities include a post-game concert featuring ‘80s stars Tone Loc and Rob Base, a breast cancer survivors’ lap, a silent auction, a car giveaway from Dimmitt Chevrolet, and a baseball game with the Clearwater Threshers, Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, taking on the Port Charlotte Stone Crabs, Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The event schedule includes:
• 5:30 p.m. – Gates open (first 1,000 women through the gates receive a commemorative Pitch for Pink tote bag)
• 6 p.m. – Breast cancer survivors’ lap
• 6:30 p.m. – Clearwater Threshers vs. Port Charlotte Stone Crabs

A post-game concert with Tone Loc (Funky Cold Medina, Wild Thing) and Rob Base (It Takes Two, Joy and Pain) will get everyone up and dancing.

A special part of the night is when breast cancer survivors are invited to take a lap around the bases before the game. Players from both teams, along with the fans, cheer on the survivors, offering support and recognizing their strength as they battle breast cancer.

The pink jerseys worn by the players and pink bats will be autographed and auctioned off in the silent auction with several other donated items from local businesses and individuals. Dimmitt Chevrolet will offer a chance to win a pink Chevy Camaro. Attendees have an opportunity to win prizes with pink balloons, and pink baseballs also will be available for sale.

Tickets for the Pitch for Pink event can be purchased at www.threshersbaseball.com or by calling (727) 467-4457. Ticket prices are $5, $7 or $9.50. Since its inception in 2006, Pitch for Pink has raised nearly $180,000 to help support breast cancer programs and services at Morton Plant Mease.
